Usedom Island – Motorcyclist seriously injured in traffic accident

Usedom Island - On May 18th, 2023 at around 1:30 p.m., a traffic accident with personal injury and property damage occurred on the B110, between the Mellenthin intersection and the Lieper Winkel exit, near the Stolper Landweg entrance, in which a total of three motorcycles were involved.

The 57-year-old driver of a Harley-Davidson was driving on the B110 towards Mellenthin within a column of around 30 motorcycles. The motorcyclists in front of him had to slow down due to traffic for an unknown reason. As a result of braking too hard, the 57-year-old German lost control of his vehicle and fell.

He suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Greifswald University Hospital by rescue helicopter. The vehicle itself had minor damage and remained drivable. Two following motorcyclists, both 58 years old and German, braked because of the fallen driver and also fell.

Only their motorcycles were slightly damaged, but remained roadworthy. The total damage amounts to approximately EUR 12,500. The road was completely closed for a short time.

Even after traffic was diverted to one side of the accident site, a significant backlog formed due to holiday and travel traffic to the island of Usedom.
