Motorcycle safety check week - West Palatinate Police Headquarters announces checks
12.05.2023 - West Palatinate: The coming week is all about motorcycle safety for the police in the West Palatinate. From today, Friday, bikers can expect numerous checks. The focus is on road safety when riding a motorcycle.
Although the number of people killed and seriously injured on the roads fell again last year, there are still too many motorcycle accidents. Many motorcyclists are drawn to their bikes, especially when the weather is nice and the weather is warm. This also increases the risk of accidents.
It can be assumed that this situation will not change significantly until the fall. On the first weekend of May alone, there were two serious traffic accidents in the area of the Pirmasens police department with serious injuries and one fatally injured motorcyclist. The risk of having an accident and being seriously injured is many times higher when riding a motorcycle than with other types of traffic. One of the reasons for this is that motorcyclists lack a protective zone in the event of a collision.
It is important to the police that everyone arrives home safely. The appeal is made to all road users to be careful and show consideration for each other on the roads. This also means that everyone must behave in such a way that no one else is harmed, endangered, unavoidably hindered or, for example, disturbed by noise. After all, what is fun on a motorcycle for one person may be too loud for others and be perceived as a detriment to their quality of life.
The police are responding to these challenges with targeted campaigns relating to motorcycling and are therefore carrying out checks primarily on popular motorcycle routes in the areas of responsibility of the Kaiserslautern and Pirmasens police districts. The campaigns focus on motorcycle safety. The primary aim is to raise awareness of road safety. The campaigns are therefore accompanied by driving and behavioral tips on safe motorcycling, which the police convey in on-site talks.
However, anyone who does not adhere to the rules must expect appropriate sanctions. In this context, the police also pay attention to machines that are too loud.
