#3 Harleysite North Cape Tour – Part 3 from Nesvik to Bergen
The sun rises, the first thing we do is take a look over the beautiful lake, the weather looks very good for the coming day. We pitched our tent in the garden of the Hjelmelandsvagen Hostel . After showering, we made ourselves some coffee and had a snack. Then things suddenly move quickly, the tents are dismantled in no time and within a few minutes everything is stowed back on the Harley and securely lashed down.
First we will take the ferry to Nesvik , which is, as is often the case, only a short distance.
The waiting time is always reasonable and here too we pay directly on board, the cashier comes to you, so you should wait a few minutes on your Harley for the cashier. Our destination for the day is the town of Odda , where we want to have lunch and then we go to Skjervsfossen waterfall , we will pitch our tent outside Bergen by the sea. We want to start this day relaxed, it won't be a big day trip, we'll drive the 13 to Odda, that's 140 kilometers. through Norwegian nature.
Second breakfast by the lake in Nesflaten
We have a problem today, we're somehow still missing our hearty breakfast and it doesn't look like there's a bakery anywhere on Landstrasse 13.
After 80 kilometers we stopped at the lake in Nesflaten, where there is a shop where you can get important things like cake and milk for coffee.
Quickly take out the burner and pot, put the water in and clear the coffee filter, no machine can keep up with this coffee.
Breakfast in the sun
We improvised our second breakfast under the sunshine. We really liked that, we drove to Odda in a totally relaxed way, which is a beautiful little harbor town at the end of the Sorfjord, which is a branch of the Hardangerfjord. You can also visit a traditional stave church there, unfortunately the church was closed at the time.
Lunch in Odda
We ate a good pizza right by the water in the Smeltehuset Bar. A modern shop with a salad bar, it's a bit hectic here, but all three of us were pretty run down so that didn't affect us. We were really tired, it must have been the fresh air, otherwise we had no explanation for it.
We sat outside in the Smeltehuset Bar and let the sun provide us with vitamin D. There isn't much else to see, but you can eat well in Odda and there is also a gas station here. On the way we saw a camera truck from TomTom that was recording the routes; it's probably not just Google that's responsible for this sort of thing.
You have to get used to the long tunnel journeys!
What takes some getting used to are the long tunnels, sometimes it goes quickly, but after a 6 kilometer long tunnel there is also a 12 kilometer long tunnel, which is quite stressful and makes you tired.
Now we go to the Skjervsfossen waterfall , which is right on the road and is something for those who are lazy on foot. We make a short stop here, which is nice to see.
It has to be said that if you have a lot of time and enjoy hiking, you will find breathtaking nature here, the Vöringsfossen waterfall is even more spectacular and the most famous waterfall in Norway . There is also a well-known platform there, but it is a 1.5 hour walk there and back.
Hardanger is known for its impressive waterfalls
Hardanger district it is easily possible to get intoxicated by a waterfall, there are many very famous ones to see here. You can also find further information on the VisitNorway .
We've seen enough, we continue towards the coast, we have great summer weather, in which case it's worth driving to the sea. The planned campsite is called Skogtun Motel and Camping , the site is not at ground level, as is often the case here, there are small slopes and bays, or like us, a grassy area with a view of the sea.
It's really nice here, we were among ourselves and of course we looked for a place where the distance to the bathroom was short. We slowly developed a routine, the tents were quickly put up, the chairs opened and again we had a beautiful sunset and conversations about petrol. The next day we want to go to the Hanseatic Quarter of Bergen, but now comes the warm summer night in the tent.
