Serial 1 e-bikes from Harley-Davidson – Second generation 2022
THE MOST IMPORTANT FEATURES AND TECHNOLOGIES OF THE SERIAL 1 E-BIKES
All Serial 1 e-bikes are developed in a purpose-built facility on the Harley-Davidson® campus in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, using the same principles and processes that are used to develop electric motorcycles.
A central center of gravity is the key to safe handling and excellent riding dynamics, so Serial 1's goal from the outset was to develop a bike with a very low center of gravity that offers agile and predictable handling in all riding situations.

Serial 1's e-bikes are sleek and modern. All cables and wires are hidden in the frame, the lighting is integrated front and rear, and the smooth, clean lines provide exactly the great style that customers expect from Serial 1.
And finally, by integrating low-maintenance and easy-to-use technologies such as the Gates Carbon Drive belt drive, an automatic CVT transmission (on selected models) and self-adjusting hydraulic brakes, we have developed extremely fun and easy-to-use e-bikes that allow the rider to enjoy every ride to the fullest without interruption.
Aluminum frame: The frame and forks are constructed from welded, hydroformed aluminum to make them light and stiff, while the geometry is designed for the following properties:
- Maneuverable, agile handling in all driving situations
- Superior control and comfort on both urban cycle paths and rural side roads.
Integrated battery: The lithium-ion battery is integrated into the lower frame and can be easily removed for charging outside the bike. It can also be charged via a charging port located on the lower frame when it is inside the bike.
Mid-engine: The Brose mid-motor generates 90Nm/66 ft. lb. of torque, providing enough assistance to get a quick start from a standing start and help the rider conquer even the toughest hills. An electronic torque sensor automatically registers the pressure the rider applies to the pedals and immediately delivers the appropriate electric assistance. There is no throttle or clutch - just pedal and go.
Four driving modes:
- Eco mode for gentle support in flat and comfortable conditions.
- Tour mode for the optimum mix of support and battery economy in different riding conditions.
- Sport mode for pronounced support in bends or on inclines.
Boost mode for tackling steep climbs, strong headwinds or other conditions that require continuous support.
Walking aid: A „walking aid“ function can be accessed at the touch of a button on the handlebar controls and provides a slight forward movement in order to electric bike easy to maneuver on foot, especially when it has to be pushed up a hill.
Belt drive: The Gates Carbon Drive belt is smooth, quiet and maintenance-free. It does not require regular lubrication or adjustment like a chain drive system. It never gets greasy or dirty.

Automatic gearshift transmission (only for RUSH/CTY models): The intelligent Enviolo AUTOMATiQ automatic transmission is an electronically controlled CVT (Constantly Variable Transmission) rear hub that automatically and continuously adjusts the gear ratio to maintain the rider's optimum, individual cadence, even if the terrain or riding speed changes. It is completely sealed and maintenance-free and is included on all RUSH/CTY models.
Controls on the handlebars: The ergonomically arranged thumb and index finger controls on each model allow the rider to switch the e-bike on and off, change the riding mode, switch the integrated headlight on and off and activate the walking aid without having to take one hand off the handlebars.
Hydraulic disc brakes: E-bike specific hydraulic disc brakes front and rear with 203 mm brake discs designed for reliable braking performance in most riding situations - essential for fast e-bikes and all-weather commuting.

Internally routed cables: Brake lines and electrical cables are routed through the frame, resulting in longer life and less maintenance as they are protected from the elements and offer clean, no-frills handling.
Integrated lighting: A bright LED headlight attached to the stem illuminates the path and makes the rider appear more conspicuous in the dark. Bright LED rear and brake lights integrated into the dropouts of the frame are designed to make the bike more visible from behind. The striking LED front light pays homage to the shape of the classic head tube of the original Harley-Davidson bikes from the early 1920s and lights up whenever the e-bike is switched on.
Intelligent size distributionThe frame geometry is optimized for each frame size to ensure a comfortable riding position and consistent handling for all sizes, regardless of the rider's height. The preferred riding position for city bikes is upright to increase the rider's comfort and awareness of their surroundings. Both frame geometry and contact points have been analyzed to ensure that our size range is best suited to almost every customer.

The sizing tool is available on every model page on www.serial1.com to find. If you have any further questions, please contact Serial 1 customer service.Â
What should I do if I am between two sizes?
A few people may still fall exactly between two sizes. The question of which size is right for each customer depends on what he/she intends to do with the bike.
A larger size will feel bulkier and ride more stable at high speeds, while a smaller size will feel more compact and offer sportier handling.
How does the automatic CVT transmission work?
The continuously variable Enviolo AUTOMATiQ transmission is based on the NuVinci CVT transmission system, in which a set of rotating and tilting balls is arranged between the input and output pulleys of a gearbox.
Tilting the balls changes their contact diameter and thus the effective transmission ratio. As a result, the NuVinci CVT system offers a seamless and continuous transition to any ratio within this range. This video shows you how it works.
What do the different driving modes do?Â
With the four available riding modes, the intensity of the electric assistance provided by the motor can be adjusted. This allows the rider to select the most suitable riding mode depending on their needs and riding conditions:
Eco mode is best suited for flat and leisurely routes when you only want a little assistance without draining the battery unnecessarily.
The tour mode is best suited if you want constant yet manageable electric assistance in order to achieve an optimum mix of assistance and battery economy in changing riding conditions.
The sport mode is best suited if you want noticeable support on bends and inclines to enable you to ride further or faster than you would under your own power.
Boost mode is best suited for steep climbs, strong headwinds or other situations where you need long-lasting and effective support.
Do I need a special charger if I want to own a Serial 1 e-bike?
No. A portable charger is included with the e-bike and can be plugged into any standard household socket (in Europe and North America).
What is the range of a Serial 1 e-bike?
As Serial 1 e-bikes are pedal-assisted bikes, the possible range can vary considerably depending on the surface, the selected riding mode and the rider's pedal assistance.
