The Harley-Davidson Touring family and the trikes
Product portfolio
The models in the Touring series have always been the quintessence of comfortable touring machines from Harley-Davidson. “King of the road” is the attribute that perfectly characterizes this model family.
And in 2019, traveling will remain her domain - regardless of whether it is an extended vacation, a relaxing weekend trip or a short day trip. Comfort is particularly important here.
The torsion-resistant touring frame and the perfectly coordinated chassis components at the front and rear as well as the powerful and vibration-isolated Milwaukee-Eight V-Twin contribute to this.
Depending on the model, it has a displacement of 1745 cm3 (107 cui) or 1868 cm3 (114 cui). Current CVO models based on touring even draw their power from 1923 cm3 (117 cui).
The exhaust area in the cylinder heads is always liquid-cooled. Depending on the model, the medium used is engine oil or coolant.
In all types, the engines transmit their power to the Cruise Drive six-speed transmission via a hydraulically operated anti-hopping oil bath clutch, which contributes to superior performance and low fuel consumption.
The gears are selected using a rocker switch, an electronic throttle control (Electronic Throttle Control) makes Bowden cables unnecessary and enables the use of the standard electronic cruise control system.
On the rear wheel of every touring bike, the Isolated Drive System minimizes the amount of noise and vibration and ensures increased driving refinement when accelerating and shifting as well as at constant speed.
ABS assisted braking system
An ABS-supported braking system with three brake discs and electronic brake force distribution is responsible for the deceleration in all two-wheeled touring models, which optimally doses the braking forces to the front and rear wheels in every driving situation from a speed of 40 km/h.
The equipment of every two-wheel touring model includes comfortable driver's footboards, luggage cases and a fairing or a removable windshield.
Aerodynamically placed air channels (Splitstream Vent) in the “Batwing” and “Shark Nose” fairings prevent turbulence in the driver’s head area.
The suitcases and the Tour-Pak (top case) fitted on select models offer plenty of storage space that is particularly easy to access, as the design of locks and hinges allows opening and closing with just one hand.

Halogen twin headlights or Daymaker LED headlights
Depending on the model, the Touring types have halogen double headlights or Daymaker LED headlights with very high light output.
Boom! Box infotainment systems with color touchscreen, high-quality audio part, Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition, navigation system, intercom and control joysticks on the handlebar controls for information and entertainment on board.
All Touring variants are characterized by practical features such as the connection for a Harley-Davidson battery charger, the large 22.7 liter fuel tank and the particularly powerful alternator, which allows the connection of electrically operated accessories such as heated seats and grips the “Parts and Accessories” program.

Model maintenance
In 2019, all touring models with the suffixes Special or Ultra as well as both trikes have the particularly powerful Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine with a displacement of 1868 cm3 and up to 164 Nm of torque.
The new Boom! Box GTS replaces the infotainment system previously used in the Touring models (except Road King types) and the Trike Tri Glide Ultra.
It works more intuitively and faster than the previous model, its 16.5 cm screen is more contrasty and sharper and it offers a significantly expanded range of features.
For 2019, the trikes receive new chassis components at the front and rear, decelerate with a new ABS composite brake system and also have traction control including engine drag torque control.
